The situation may not be as hopeless as it seems on the surface regarding our ability to prevent the next global epidemic from becoming a pandemic. For one, we have a new leader on Capitol Hill here in the states. Some of the bungled decisions made early pandemic will surely never be made again. Additionally, a globally consistent and universal approach to infection control measures can be established that will enable prevention and early mitigation. For example, the N-95 paper respirator, heightened sanitation and hygiene practices, and a transparent and scientifically valid approach to potential disease transmission modality can prevent most communicable diseases.
