I suspect that Pandemic COVID-19 will be recorded by historians as a second modern dawning of awareness of the importance of public health as a front line defense against all-hazards... since 9/11. Unfortunately, the business of public health tends to be sidetracked until we suddenly become "diseased." It seems that we were equally unprepared for our present global health crisis and 9/11. I was in the field pre-9/11 and we developed an all-hazards readiness system that was then functional and coveted by other health jurisdictions, though I have seen indicators that the progress has been lost due to time, finance, and [some of] our fading memories of 9/11. As we move forward towards breaking the curse of COVID-19, while remembering 9/11, the primary objective of public health, prevention and effective mitigation, must again become our emphasis and part of our patterns of daily existence.
