This is an interesting article. Although I am deeply involved in the wellness side of public health, you make me realize I should consider more research on exercise. You do realize that both Schwarzenegger and Platz (Arnold credits Tom as King of legs - rightfully) utilized the Smith machine, claimed by many to be designed by Jack Lalanne himself. You should consider studying the impact of Nautilus on the perception of "Free weights." In my youth, I belonged to a Nautilus-only gymnasium that slowly phased in free weights. Within six months, I converted completely from Nautilus machines to the classic free weight exercises, including my introduction to the Dead lift. I was a free weight snob. However, within six months after that, I hybridized the two efficiently. Through the pandemic, I was reduced to push-ups, exercise bands, and knee bends. I was able to simulate a dead lift effectively. Will explain to anyone interested... Regardless, my very recent return to the gym was not traumatic.
